Ares Music Labels Should Offer Entire Back Catalogs
There is one obvious way that the record companies could curb a lot of the music file sharing that happens online. Simply, they should offer artists’ entire back catalogs for sale. There are many people who would be happy to pay for their favorite albums or songs if they weren’t out of print. If John Q. Music Lover can’t buy the song he wants and is desperate enough, he’s likely to go to one of the many filesharing networks and download a copy from Susie Q. Music Lover, because it’s the only way and it’s easy to do. Surely, however, there must be an inexpensive way for the record companies to offer any particular music the consumer may want to buy.
