Eufaula Courthouse in poor condition

Mentioned in this article...

From http://www.zwire.com/site/news.cfm?BRD=2...8&PAG=461&rfi=9:

Several months ago, the county paid off a 20-year-old loan used to refurbish the county's two courthouses, the majority of which was used for the Eufaula courthouse. But Barbour County Commission Chairman Frank Straughn told his fellow commissioners Monday night, "We're going to have to turn right around and put millions of dollars in them to bring them up to par."

Talking about the poor condition of the Eufaula courthouse, Straughn said he is worried someone could fall through the floor.

Many argue that the cost of running two courthosues is one of the reasons of Barbour County's financial troubles.

If Eufaula is one of the oldest historic cities in Alabama, with one of the oldest school systems, than would the city of Eufaula be able to apply for any national or state historic land marks that would help them with the city court building up keep, if they have not done so all ready with othe historic buildings in the city, peace out!
